A sporting life is easy to lead in a land of lakes, forests and ball fields.

The Crisp County Recreation Department has more than 40 programs from which to choose. With a full-time staff of four and a complement of 55 part-time staffers, the recreation department provides fun and learning for all ages. If you just want to try your hand at a new hobby, the recreation department offers programs including arts & crafts, needlepoint or pottery.

Traditional recreation programs are also offered and those include baseball, basketball and football, plus many more. If it's something different you're looking for you can always try calligraphy, furniture restoration or line dancing. These are but a few of the many programs that are offered for both youth and adults by the Crisp County Recreation Department.

Recreational programs are matched only by the facilities that exist in Crisp County. Twelve parks covering 38 acres offer swimming pools and well-kept sport complexes.

The largest recreational activity in Crisp County is Crisp County Youth Ball. The CCYBL is comprised of Cordele boys and girls between the ages of seven and fifteen. While the boys play baseball, the girls compete in fast-pitch softball. One of the few fast-pitch programs in Georgia, the Cordele Little League is ahead of the game. This is of particular importance because in 1995 the Georgia High School Association changed from traditional slow-pitch to fast-pitch softball for girls.

The CCYBL season begins in April and continues into July. With over 400 children involved in 2005 , the league has doubled in size in just five years. Along with the children, the parents and spectators can join in the fun through activities that help keep the program up and running while promoting good fun and competition.

With such a wide range of activities available in Cordele-Crisp County it's easy to find something suited to your lifestyle.

If you are still looking for something to do, there is always the cool comfort of the three-screen movie theater in Cordele where the latest box office hits can be enjoyed.

If it's a lifetime of fun and excitement you're dreaming about, dream no more. We have it all for you here in Crisp County. For more information on recreation please view our TOURISM and GOLF pages.

The park features four major components:  high intensity sports facilities, passive recreation and free play areas, natural areas for walking trails, nature studies and golf facilities.

Phase one of the recreation center was completed in 2001 and includes:  administrative offices, a community hall, a lounge, locker rooms, a gymnasium, an aerobics/dance room.,racquetball courts, a cardiovascular work-out room, a concession stand, a kitchen, a laundry facility, an arts and crafts studio, a child care center and a storage area all under one roof.

Other plans made by the Crisp County Recreation Department include the upgrade of existing parks and local pools, further development of Williams Field and expansion of community park facilities.

When school is out, the YMCA is in.  The YMCA understands that how children spend their time out of school is as important as how they spend it in school.  The YMCA offers both after school child care and all day summer camp in Crisp County.  These programs focus on the well being of the child, and like all YMCA programs, are based on the four shared community values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

The Crisp County YMCA After School Program is an affordable 41-week program for ages 5-14.  Children are grouped according to age to encourage social interaction and age appropriate activities..  Understanding the needs of middle school students, young teens are placed in their own group.  All after school students have nutritious snacks, supervised homework, and time for sports, creativity and games.  Field trips are a fun part of the holiday camps that are held during school holidays

The Lake Blackshear YMCA Day Camp Program is offered for 11 weeks each summer at beautiful Lake Blackshear.  Boy and girls, ages 5-14, love this time spent enjoying the outdoors.  Swimming lessons are provided with the traditional camp activities of arts and crafts, hiking, water sports and nature walks.  Environmental studies and a Junior Ranger program are also included.
